Wear kneepads, but stay stylish

One of my favourite things about pole is the dynamic of movement. One moment you’re up in the air and the next you’re down on the floor. This is so exciting, but also requires control and caution if you don’t wanna go home from class with black or blue knees after doing all those drops, floor-work and knee pivots.

As a pole dancer, I can assure you that there is a far more comfortable way to take care of yourself and your knees – with quality knee pads. Investing in these stylish and affordable items is definitely worth it (you can thank me later :) ). They will save you from bruising and pain while adding a touch of cuteness to your personal style.

Kneepads come in a variety of styles and are made from many different materials. So, how to choose the right kneepads?

Normal kneepads available at sporting goods stores are usually the cheapest. We all know the kind – one side is elastic, and the other is the pad. These kneepads don’t prevent slipping, are far from cute, they rarely match our outfits and can get in the way of pole moves. No point in buying something you’re not going to be happy with and have to return.

Mighty Grip kneepads are similarly designed to normal ones, but they have grip strips added at the back, allowing you to transition easily from floor to pole. The front is padded to protect your knees and soft enough to be able to slide around with ease. They also have grip panels behind the knee and open pits which allow you to grip the pole without slipping. They are much more expensive than the normal variety and you can find them a little bulky and unstylish.

Poledancerka kneepads can heat up your look and protect your knees without feeling bulky or thick. These knee pads stay in place during floor work and dancing – and they don’t slide. They are designed with an exposed back portion to allow for knee hangs, and a sticky section to grip the pole. Despite a minimalistic look, the thin pads will not get thinner and flattened, even after long and intensive use. These knee pads are affordable while the materials are comfortable, top quality and effective.

Most pole dancers don’t wear knee pads, because they look unattractive and feel too crude. Yet luckily, sometimes products are made to fill a gap in the market. A good design will help you look and feel great, as it has done with many famous pole dancers.

Poledancerka knee pads  are already used by Marion Crampe, Amy Hazel (she even performed in them at Miss Pole Dance Australia), Phoenix Kazree (she also already performed in them), Maddie Sparkle, Sergia Louise Anderson and other amazing pole dancers.

A pair of cute knee pads  will spice up your look and keep your knees safe. And don’t forget – good technique saves your knees as well ;)

What kneepads do you prefer? Why?

Do you use them at all? Why?

It’s almost time to open a bottle of bubbly

2016 is coming to a close… have you been naughty or nice?

I suppose we always look back on our year and marvel at all the things we managed to do. This past year has been amazing for my Poledancerka brand and I’m thankful for everyone that has been a part of my journey. My knee pads are already used by Marion Crampe and Maddie Sparkle, Sergia Louise Anderson, Phoenix Kazree, Amy Hazel and thousands of other wonderful pole dancers. This is truly the greatest gift to me, as the owner of the Poledancerka brand.

I’m also super excited about the new additions to my knee pad collection. It took plenty of time and care to design bodysuitsleggingstops and shorts and I hope you’ll love them as much as I do. We’re pole dancers and are allowed to look good when we train ;). New, awesome pole clothes can lead to renewed motivation and the inspiration to train harder and reach your goals. When I’m wearing my Forte – Piano Shorts, I really feel good about myself – like I can finally nail that hard, new trick that I’ve been working on for so long.

I really appreciate all the comments and feedback I get to see daily – that’s what I work for. It’s rewarding to see pole dance stars like Marion Crampe and Phoenix Kazree proudly wearing my pole wear.

“I already fell in love a couple of months ago, with the perfect black Poledancerka kneepads. Beyond being so useful, they are extremely feminine and are like jewelry for the knees – the perfect size to offer good protection for your floor-work. They can also be worn on the pole due to the grip placed on the inside part.” (Marion Crampe)

“I don’t usually use knee pads, but lately I’ve been loving this pair given to me as a gift from Poledancerka. With open backs, a small strip of faux leather for tack and padding that is sexy instead of bulky, they are perfect and I love them.”  (Phoenix Kazree)

I hope you get everything you wish for and more. Stay warm, keep dancing and be amazing.

Happy Holidays everyone! ☺

And don’t forget to share below, what your highlights in 2016 were …

You can never tell if the baby sitter is a pole dancer

Our pole dancing community is truly amazing – people of all ages and sizes dancing together, connected by a passion for pole… I’ve met so many wonderful people, each with a different story and something to share.

Once I took my child to the babysitter, and when we got there, I glanced surprisingly at the pole in her living room. She jumped quickly explaining: “It’s a great and challenging workout that has nothing to do with striptease, exotic dancing and underground strip clubs. You really need a lot of strength to heave yourself up the pole and go upside down. And you also get lots of confidence from it.” Needless to say she turned bright red; I started laughing and told her I pole dance too. Then all of a sudden, there was a sense of relief and a connection between us. To my surprise, she didn’t want me to pay for babysitting, so I gave her a lovely Opera bodysuit and Poledancerka knee pads  from my Poledancerka collection. Yay! It is so nice to find another pole sister :).

I find it amazing that you can tell if a girl pole dances just by looking at her in everyday life. Until… they do it. Their glowing confidence is what makes them truly beautiful. They love the skin they are in – and everyone can notice it.

Pole dance is not just about fitness and tricks, it is so much deeper.

What I really love about pole dancing is seeing a talented, kind, generous, creative and loving pole community. We support each other, cheer for each other, feel each other’s pain and we always have each other’s ‘backs’, both in class and out. Support from the pole community was recently seen at its best at the Croatia Pole Camp. There were around 600 participants (mostly girls) and there was no negativity or judgement.

I’m truly grateful for being surrounded by people who understand and get my pole passion. You all inspire me!

A Look Back: From Las Vegas to Croatia

Goodbye summer… I have no idea where it went! I loved creating awesome collections for fantastic pole dancers. My business is growing and this September was probably one of the busiest in my life and I’m still trying to put everything that was amazing about it into words. Visiting Las Vegas and its awesome annual Pole Expos was breath taking – not only did I get the opportunity to become a sponsor for the Croatia Pole Camp, but also for the USPDF Pro Qualifier in New York, which is a dream come true for me in so many ways.

You can’t have enough: It’s Vegas Baby!

As an all-round pole enthusiast, I definitely couldn’t miss one of the biggest events of the year in the pole industry, which was held at the Las Vegas Hard Rock hotel – Pole Expo 2016. It was an amazing trip for many reasons. I really enjoyed the stunning performances, a variety of workshops and seminars, and meeting other fabulous suppliers and manufacturers, as well as getting to hang out with all my awesome pole friends. Being among the greatest pole stars in the world – like Marion Crampe, Amy Hazel, Sergia Louise Anderson, Natasha Wang, Pink Puma, and Michelle Shimmy – was really an honour.

It was an experience I feel truly blessed to have. I was able to catch up with so many pole friends and stars that I’ve met over the last few years. The highlight of the trip however, was the opportunity to present my Poledancerka collection. The appreciation I received for my Poledancerka brand was incredible and all of my knee pads were soon gone. Yeeeey! I just couldn’t be more thrilled with the turnout. It was also super exciting and so rewarding seeing how Amy Hazel wowed the audience with her amazing routine – and wearing Poledancerka knee pads. She is so impressively strong and flexible.

I had a fabulous time at the Pole Expo. It was everything I dreamed it would be and so much more. There is nothing like being around hundreds of pole dancers from all around the world who understand your passion and love for pole. Can we ever get enough? Nope. Plus, Vegas can be pretty fun on its own.

Perfect match: Sun, Sea and . . . Pole!

Flying back to Europe, the experience continued with another visit to a beautiful event – imagine an unforgettable beach retreat that includes outstanding pole classes and plenty of fun in sunny and warm Croatia. From September 22nd through to the 25th, the sunny city of Pula buzzed with pole stars ready to share their passion for pole. The Croatia Pole Camp, the biggest pole camp in Europe that is organised by Nikolina Jurisič and her team, offered workshops on everything from strength and flexibility to sexy floor work. Among my favourites was Marion Crampe’s Feel the Floor, Nadia Sharif’s Stripper Flow and Spinning on Static. On Saturday night, Pole Camp hosted the competition Pole Theatre Croatia. The entire event was outstanding and it was wonderful to see such talented dancers perform one after the other.

Sometimes, as a dancer, you get stuck in a rut and workshops are a great opportunity to try something new and challenging. So I experienced a mind-blowing long weekend, meeting interesting people and getting more inspired for my Poledancerka brand, as well as for my personal pole journey. It was exciting seeing plenty of girls wearing my leggings and rocking it with my Poledancerka knee-pads. The weather was fabulous and the sea was still warm enough for swimming. A total delight!

Pole events are always fun to attend and I can’t wait for the next one.

Stay tuned ;)

Getting to know yourself with pole dance

’Dance is the hidden language of the soul’ – Martha Graham.

Has it ever happened to you? That you thought you knew who you were – then you found yourself in some new and difficult position, and realised that you didn’t have the right picture at all?

The pole challenge

Well, try pole dance and you’ll definitely meet your deepest, darkest, most subtle and charming self. And what’s more, you’ll get the chance to evolve and flourish into the most beautiful, confident, strong and persistent person.

Why exactly can pole dance help you with that?

On first glance, it seems that pole dancing can offer you some physical benefits, such as strengthening and toning your body. Great. But when you look a bit deeper, you will also realize that pole dance also helps you to acquire grace and sensuality. Even better, but…

The best benefit of pole dance, while learning a new routine, is challenging yourself through acrobatic tricks, getting out of your comfort zone, and pushing yourself up to the next level. This is a true treasure that increases your mental and psychological strength.

But wait, there’s more…

Pole dance caters to multiple aspects of the human psyche. It increases the ‘feel good’ chemicals in our brain, which is a natural way of improving our mood and overcoming our negative emotions.

Discipline, perseverance and consistency will make you a winner

Pole dance is a discipline that requires persistence. If you are one of the lucky ones, who used to get everything you wanted straight away, you will find a whole new world opening up for you with pole dance. It may drive you mad or get you down at the beginning. But if you overcome your (especially mental) resistance, you’re a winner. Everything you’re going to undertake will be a piece of cake.

Express your feelings the right way

Pole dance also allows you or provokes you to express yourself through sensual movement to music you love. Depending on the mood, you can dance out any emotion: whether joy, sadness or anger. Since pole dance is a type of exercise that quickly ignites your spark and passion, it’s also great motivation to dig deeper into your own feelings and face them. Having a deeper understanding of your own feelings, thoughts, behavior and motivation has many benefits for living a more successful life.

See your beautiful self in the mirror and totally fall in love with it

It’s often really scary to see yourself in the mirror. And on top of it – standing there almost naked, wearing only tight shorts and a bra (ok, and maybe also Poledancerka’s sexy knee pads) reflecting all your imperfections. But don’t you think it could be a hell of a release if you find peace with yourself and love every imperfection you see. Or even better – if you could even eliminate some of the imperfections (meaning some of the extra weight that doesn’t serve you :) ).

Well, it’s totally do-able my dear Poledancerka. You just have to start moving around the pole. But I must warn you, you might get surprised finding out what you’re capable of. So go surprise yourself.

‘Be yourself; everyone is already taken’ – Oscar Wilde.

Do you have some interesting experiences to share from your personal journey that led you into an honest confrontation with yourself so that now you truly own the way you feel and the way you behave?

Pole dance dress code

C’mon, I know that you really want to know whether you need to show your naked legs and belly while pole dancing. After all, for most of the performances you’ve seen (and loved), the dancer was dressed in booty shorts and a sports bra. That’s scary shit.

Even though you’ve actually started to play with the idea of pole dancing, it’s the dress code issue that’s still bothering you – because you’re not ready to see yourself with hardly any clothes on (yet).

Well, there is a tangible reason why pole dance fashion has moved in such a minimalist direction. It’s because skin is the best material to ensure a reliable grip. And when you’re suspended upside down, believe me, that’s all you’re gonna care about. You won’t give a damn about the extra fat or cellulite you have and wanna hide.

But there is consolation in the spicy pole dress code story– luckily, you don’t have to come to your first class in your shortest shorts and bra. It’s important to start building self-confidence about your body and take baby steps. After all, at the end of the day, you do want to persist with your new exercise routine!

So your dress code at the beginning of a pole dance class will consist of: comfy leggings or shorts, and a workout top or t-shirt. Footwear can include socks, or you can go barefoot.

For your advanced pole dance classes you will become more self-confident and fit, so you will have no problem wearingtight shorts and top. For footwear, you will perhaps even include high heels.

Nowadays, pole fashion has upgraded to an amazing extent, so if you’re a Poledancerka fashionista – girl, we have some treats for you! Who would care about your extra grams, when you’re dress code is so chic.

What is your favorite outfit to practice in at most of your classes? Any particular brands (like Poledancerka :)) that you adore? Have you ever had any problems in classes when you wore something that caused you problems?

Sacred pole dancing roots for a fruitful future

No tree, it’s said, can grow to reach heaven unless its roots reach down to hell. (C. G. Jung)

With this quote we can definitely draw an analogy with pole dancing. And believe it or not, even with tango… And with ballet… Andwithmany other dancing styles.

Have I confused you?

Well if you haven’t already researched some of the roots of pole dancing, you’ll be surprised at what we’re about to tell you. But I thought that as a passionate pole dancer – or even if you are 100 per cent Poledancerka – you would wanna know. And after that I bet you would wanna get your hands dirty and become Poledancerka :).

Origins in ancient tribal fertility and erotic dances

Though the true origins of pole dance are not precisely known, we could conclude that the pole dancing story goes way back to early ancient times with different tribal fertility and erotic dances that were performed by women. There is even a story that the pole dance originated in  , which she danced for Herod.

African women’s dance around the wooden pole

Some believe that pole dancing originates from African tribal dancing, where women danced around a wooden pole in front of the men they were engaged to.This was their way of expressing how they wanted their future husbands to make love to them.

Maypole ritual during Pagan times

History shows that even in Pagan times people performed a sort of pole dance in the month of May to boost fertility – known as the maypole. The ritual was held around a tall vertical pole decorated with streamers or ribbons, where women danced to boost fertility. The maypole represented a phallic symbol, since trees have always been a symbol of great vitality and the fertility of nature. Maypole dancing was therefore, strongly associated with fertility.

India’s Mallakhamb and Chinese Pole

However, during the 12th Century in India and China, pole dancing became known as a male sportin the form of gymnastics – called Mallakhamb in India and Chinese Pole in China. Chinese Pole is usually performed on two poles. Performances were especially characterized by a lot of strength exercisesthat involved the gymnast maintaining various postures on a large vertical wooden polebetween 3 and 9 meters high. The ritual often involved several pole dancers at once. In India, Mallakhamb was also revived in the 19th Century.

Hoochie coochie women dance

In the 1920s (at the height of the American Depression) we can observe the modern reappearance of the pole dance via travelling circuses and fairs, known as “hoochiecoochie” side-shows. Those women who danced, used the pole in the middle of the tent as part of their dancing act, which was based on hip movements.

Pole dance enters the bars and is marked by striptease

“Hoochie coochie” girls grew really popular around the ‘50s, so they became the core of the burlesque and cabaret scene. From burlesque shows, emerged striptease and of course, pole dancing, whichin combination with stripping, found its way into bars. This was therefore, the period during which pole dancing came to be associated with sensual dancing and striptease.

In the 1980s,striptease and lap dance techniques were incorporated into pole dancing choreographies, making them wildly popular in bars and nightclubs in Canada and the USA.

Pole dancing instructions for the wider launch

The next important turning point followed in the 1990s, when the Canadian performer Fawnia Deitrich, who also participated in pole dancing competitions, began teaching the dance. She also released the first instructional video on pole dancing that gave wings to this phenomenon, which then spread throughout the America, UK, Australia, Belgium, Singapore, Russia, Netherlands, Slovenia, Croatia, Poland and the wider world.

Blooming present times – from S Factor towards the Olympics

Today, pole dancing has evolved as a combination of sport, dance and art. And according to prevailing elements, you get the specific pole dance variation. Yes, evolution brought about progress that is reflected in the nuances that define the pole dancing technique. We are even literally counting the days when the sporting version of pole dance will become recognized as an Olympics sport. Pole dance even hit the stage in 2000, when Sheila Kelley opened the S Factor in Los Angeles. And 3 years later, Oprah Winfrey hosted Sheila on her show and the world was introduced to Pole Fitness.

Now you know – poledancing is a dancing discipline with an exciting and long history.

The struggles of tango and ballet before gaining acceptance

But pole dancing isn’t  the only dance which experienced controversy, outrage, indignation, criticism or censorship. All forms of dance celebrate the body in some way and may become the target of prejudice.  I bet you didn’t know that even tango originated in the brothels of ancient Argentina and so it took a while for this dance to get rid of its link to brothels and become respected.Ballet also came under close scrutiny during its development and was not considered as conservative as it later became.

So respect the roots and follow your vision.

Now share with us your history and roots of getting to know pole dance and contribute to this brave and passionate community – how did it all start for you?How did you become a pole dancer/Poledancerka?

To tell or not to tell your family and friends that you pole dance?

Pole dance is definitely one sport that you probably won’t blab excitedly about to your friends and family: “OMG, you know that I just started pole dancing. And I’m totally in love. I even think I’m addicted to it.”

A little weird for sure… Or maybe not for you. (But then I guess you’re not likely to be a typical pole dancing customer :).)

So it takes a hell of a lot of pre-research and opinion testing. Information gained has given Poledancerka an insight into the situation she is dealing with and the grounds on which Poledancerka prepares herself for the day (hopefully in the very near future) to be able to break this hot and flashy news to her significant others.

Even though this is an unpleasant fact of life for the pole dancer, you’ve got to admit that it also adds charm to the whole thing. This fact makes pole dancing exclusively your thing (and your partner’s – in case you already ‘handled’ him :).

It is how it is – like it or not: The nature of pole dance somehow demands that people be open-minded in order to accept it. The more conservative the people you are dealing with, the harder it is for them to accept something that smells so strongly connected with sexuality. (Even though we all know it’s not what it’s all about.)

But my dears, just as Poledancerka expects her loved ones or the wider public to accept pole dance, she must also accept that others are the way they are: some very open-minded and accepting, others conservative and rejecting.

So this brings us to one smart conclusion: if you’re not ready to accept and cope with the drama caused by those who look upon pole dance unfavorably, then it’s for the best that this stays your little secret (don’t worry, we all have them and it should stay this way).

While some relatives may be willing to swallow this, outsiders can cause a greater problem– what will our neighbor Greg say, or perhaps Peter, our colleague at work – and not to mention our conservative friend Margaret – we can all imagine the look on her face when she hears about it.

So if you’re dealing with the toughest scenario, here’s a quick simple idea that can help:

  • It might be a good thing to show your folks some of the performances in the You tube videos that have no trace of sex appeal or exotic teasing, butonly demonstrate the athletic and artistic side of the pole.
  • Or you can tell them that you have a project that involves taking pole dancing classes. And later you can tell them that you didn’t even imagine that it could besuch good exercise, helping you to build strength and shaping your body, or even helping you to lose some weight and build self-confidence.

Maybe you’re one of the lucky Poledancerkas who is mostly surrounded by open-minded people so that you’re totally surprised reading these lines: “Really, there are people who don’t approve of pole dancing??? But how come, when it’s no biggy!!!” Well, what can I say: “Lucky you!” We all hope the day will come when pole dancing will be accepted like ballet, swimming or even yoga. We must admit, the trend is definitely moving in this direction, so we have reasons to be positive (I like that, because Poledancerka likes to look at things on the bright side of the life).

It takes courage to be Poledancerka! And the pole dance community definitely is one of the bravest.

So keep doing what you love in your life and don’t fall to your knees (in case you do, don’t forget to arm yourself properly with Poledancerka’s knee pads :)), just because others are being negative or judgmental. Be who you are and live your life the way you love it.

Tell us:

Are you a lucky Poledancerka who was able to share your little secret with relatives, or is your secret still safe with you (and is gonna stay that way for a little while)? How did you break the news to your close ones and what was their reaction?

Pole dance is not for him, it’s for her

…but if the stars are favorable, he can also get lucky (those rare and precious moments we all live for :))…

Before we gaze deeply into the hot topic, let’s make one thing clear first:

She didn’t start pole dancing because she wanted to be sexy for you, guys. She did it for her.

Still, most of the boys/men/partners will be rubbing their handsand thinking: ‘I can hardly wait for the surprise she is preparing for me,’ as a nice, happy cloud floats above their heads and they visualiseher in sexy Victoria’s Secret lingerie, seducing him on the pole.

There will even be a small number of those with a worried or mad cloud thinking: ‘WTF?! What is she thinking?! Is she crazy?! What will our friends say if they find out?! OMG, I can’t believe I have such a perverse girlfriend/wife!’

No matter how weird it seems, most of the time, she started pole dancing for herself, because:

  • It gives her time to be with herself, with her deepest feminine feelings.
  • It helps her to stay fit while having fun.
  • And on top of that – the cherry on the cake – she learns the skills needed to satisfy her man as a self-confident, hot babe (of course, only if he is gentle, kind and considerate will he deserve this – just kidding… well kind of joking…).

I want to say that pole dancing can be the fuel to a passionate fire for the couple too, if she wants that. And I guarantee you (men), you’ll know when she’s trying to seduce you with pole dancing (not just showing you her new tricks). It’s a promise.

(Sexy pole dance for your partner can be really hot when you descend on your knees while twisting around the pole. So don’t forget to protect your knees in style with Poledancerka knee pads.)

Pole dancing is a highly emotional practice (from different points of views). Those of you who regularly practise pole dance know that it can easily become an obsession born out of passion.

Pole dance is to all of us Poledancerka’s elixir for our sensual, inspirational, beautiful, strong souls. While our counterparts see it as a bunch of women/menspinning around a pole in their underwear. And in the worst case scenario, pole dance can dividea couple or even destroy a relationship.

Yes, in most cases after the excitement of the first few months/years, there comes a reality check. Then the cloud above your boyfriend’s head turns into: ‘Oh no, pole dance again – give me a break. I don’t want to hear anything anymore about the tricks, moves and performances’.

In the end it’s all about the energy the performer brings. Rare are the timeswhen pole dancers pour in sexual energy. Those moments are mostly reserved for private moments. Some of Poledancerka’s partners just might get lucky. Then it will be better than you can imagine.

Look ladies, before you get frantic, I know it’s a ‘warm buns’ topic and each of you has your own point of view, but please do share with the community and help us sharpen the picture.

We are curious – how did you boyfriend, partner or husband react when you showed him your pole dancing plans?

Do you ever pole dance for him? Do tell us more…
